About

My name is Kendra-anne and I am the photographer behind Kendra-anne Michelle Photography! I decided to follow my dream of becoming a photographer at the tail end of 2015 and have recently found my “style”. Which, I like to describe as a mix of light and a bit of matte, with emphasis on genuine emotion. I am a quirky + slightly awkward person and use it to my advantage of asking silly questions or giving silly prompts to help make posing more natural. My goal is to capture every moment from engagements to expanding families. I love photographing engagements, weddings, maternity, families and lifestyle newborns! Along with loving Photography, like most, I love chocolate, reading, beautiful light, and awful jokes. I am also incredibly lucky to be a mother to two beautiful children and a wife to my wonderful husband, Cory.

Q+A:

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?

-My favorite color is Green!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?

-I don’t think I have a singular favorite book. I do LOVE everything by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, all of the Harry Potter books, the Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi, Charlotte’s Web, anything by Beverly Cleary (my inner kid geek is showing), and I just finished reading “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis and I definitely recommend reading all of these authors/books!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF SESSION?

-I love family sessions. Whether they are families with kids, or just a couple, or a couple with only four-legged children, I love being able to capture moments of joy and the interactions between family dynamics.

WHY DID YOU GET INTO WEDDINGS?

-I think weddings are my favorite thing to shoot, even more than family sessions! Ahh, I know! I love finding peace in the chaos of a wedding day. From details, to make up, to first kiss to first dance to (my absolute favorite part) CAKE!

WHEN DO YOU THINK YOU ARE AT YOUR BEST, LIGHTING WISE?

-I have come to find that I do my best work during the hours that most people don’t. I love working within an hour or two of noon and an hour to 3 hours after noon. And, do not get me wrong, I LOVE Golden hour, but I think the colors and light that I have always wanted are during the hours where the sun is just before it’s harshest and just after.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHER?

-Well, like some other photogs out there, as a way to earn extra income for my family. I have always loved Photography and when one of my friends started, I immediately jumped on the bandwagon. It took someone I knew to start off learning on their own, for me to realize that I had it in me to do it as well. Also, like most others, there are moments in life that define us as people and to me that moment was losing my mom. I want my kids to have portraits with me to hang on their walls and know that I enjoyed being in those moments with them. That we played, argued, and created things together.

WHAT KIND OF GEAR DO YOU HAVE?

-I am a Canon girl. I have all Canon gear, my favorite being my 5D Mark II.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LENS TO USE?

-My favorite lens has to be my 50 1.4. It almost never leaves my camera.

WHAT DO YOU WANT CURRENT/FUTURE CLIENTS TO KNOW?

-I am an INFJ personality type. I like to think of myself as kind, caring, slightly awkward, and funny. But, honestly, how many people are ” completely normal” anyways?!

WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS?

-Honestly, nothing really. My gear is considered pro-grade, I have taken online courses, I have an AMAZING mentor, I work hard, I try and learn new techniques or lighting hacks, I do my best to use my gear at least every day to keep my creative juices flowing, I try and do at least one small project a month that is strictly just for me ( I don’t want to get overwhelmed with just work portraits, when I love learning and creating moments), and I stalk around 300 Photogs on Insta. Okay, I don’t really stalk them, I just wish I were them..wait that didn’t sound any better. I, guess, what sets me apart would be my sense humor, nerdy wit, and the fact that I try and make a connection with my clients. There is no possible way to get any emotion to portray in your images if we do not mesh well together. I like to make silly jokes, and give (sometimes) awkward prompts to get families, couples, and individuals to interact with each other or the camera. I want to make sure that all of my clients know that their current situation matters to me, decorating your walls with real moments matters to me. There is only one portrait of myself with my mother, that is just us. She passed away before we could take another. Moments matter. Being able to sit down and remember specific scents, the scenery, jokes, outfits, moments, with the people who matter most to you.
